Why Go to College?

You’re in middle school and college is a long way off, right?

It’s actually closer than you think, but you don’t have to make decisions now about the college you’d like to attend or the career you’d like to have when you are an adult. Now that you are in middle school, however, you’ll have options and choices to make that you didn’t have before.

Up to now, you haven’t been able to choose many of your classes. In high school, you’ll have more choices and more decisions to make. Those decisions will have a big impact on your college and career options.

Middle school is a good time to think about the things you like and don’t like and take time to explore careers you might like. The things you are interested in today may say a lot about where you might be going in the future.

Think of each grade as a bridge to the next.

  • The things you learn in middle school now help you prepare for high school.
  • High school helps you prepare for college.
  • College prepares you for life!

Creating a personal roadmap or plan will guide you on your path through middle and high school and help you get to college and a career. There are bound to be twists, turns, and detours along the way, but following your map will keep you on track for the future you choose.
